Great news for landscape photographers! A very light and surprisingly compact wide-angle lens with image stabilization! Works with full-frame EOS R bodies as well as APS-C sensor size cameras like the Canon EOS R7, giving an equivalent focal length of 24-48mm.
The aperture is quite modest at F4.5-6.3, but most often in landscape photography a wider depth of field is sought, so the importance of the aperture is reduced. On the other hand, this aperture allows the lens to be small and light.
The Canon RF 15-30mm includes an optical image stabilizer with a 5-stop effective range. The lens stabilizer also works in conjunction with the in-body stabilizers of cameras such as the EOS R5, and the combined effect is 7 stops. This certainly helps with handheld landscape photography, but the clear difference to unstabilized lenses comes in video shooting.
Video recording is also aided by a fast STM focusing motor. Focusing is fast and silent without disturbing the video.
