The Sony FE 600mm F4 G Master is a telephoto lens for professional use. The image quality, mechanical durability and usability are designed for the most demanding sports and wildlife photography situations. Like the 400mm lens announced last year, this lens is very light compared to its competitors, only about three kilograms. Together with Sony's A9 camera, this forms a very compact and lightweight package considering its features.

The repositioned lens elements mean that the lens's center of gravity is in the center of the lens, at the focus ring. The lightness and center of gravity make the lens exceptionally easy to handle as a super telephoto . The center of gravity is especially helpful when using a monopod, as most of the weight is right at the tripod mount. Tracking fast-moving subjects such as birds or fast-moving sports is easier and faster.

The Sony FE 600mm GM OSS features two linear focus motors (XD Linear Focus). The autofocus keeps up with the 20fps continuous shooting of the flagship a9 body and works in conjunction with Sony's very convenient EyeAF subject tracking autofocus.

The lens has optical image stabilization, which also works in conjunction with the internal image stabilization found in Sony bodies. The image stabilization has a panning setting and a third setting (Mode 3) that stabilizes the camera's viewfinder image. This makes it easier to keep the composition just right even when tracking fast-moving subjects.

The Sony 600mm G Master is a true professional tool in terms of construction, with a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy body. The alloy is also used in the internal components of the body to ensure durability. Reliability and durability have even been achieved by increasing the number of bayonet mounting screws! The lens's front lens element is coated with fluorine to repel dirt and fingerprints. The lens hood supplied with the lens has also been designed with durability and usability in mind: the material used is now strong and lightweight carbon fiber. The lens is supplied in a hard protective case that protects against impacts and the elements, so you can take the lens with you on even the most demanding shooting gigs.

Sony's 600mm f/4 is compatible with the FE 1.4X and FE 2X teleconverters. The lens's carrying case also has ready-made slots for both teleconverters. The lens comes with a Drop-In filter holder, which allows you to use 40.5mm filters. Sony also offers a circular polarizing filter that can be rotated inside the lens barrel to adjust the polarization effect.
