A completely redesigned Sigma super telephoto lens for Sony mirrorless cameras. The upgrades are truly extensive, both image quality and usability are now at a new level. The first Sports series lens for Sony!
Cameras have more megapixels than when the first 150-600mm lens was released, and cameras have mostly become mirrorless.
This has been a good starting point for the renewal of the optical structure, the image sharpness is now better but the size of the lens and especially the weight have been kept under control. This DG DN version is 760g lighter than the previous version.
In addition to the sharpness, the geometric distortions in the image have also been better corrected. According to initial tests, the lens performs well with high-resolution cameras such as Sony's a7R series.
The Sigma 150-600mm DG DN also includes a new autofocus system, Sony's new top bodies such as the A1 have set completely new demands on lenses and we wanted to meet this challenge.
This 160-600mm super telephoto is often used for fast-paced sports and nature photography and needs to be easy to use. Sigma has made several handy improvements and features.
The zoom's friction clutch has three different positions : lock, smooth, tight. Lock is the actual transport position. Even with the Tight setting, there is no leakage when carrying, and with the Smooth setting, the zoom mechanism is so sensitive that the lens works as a pump zoom! That is, instead of rotating, you can pull and push the front of the lens and the focal length changes. This allows you to react quickly to changing situations.
The image stabilizer can be turned off and in addition, in this Sony version, you can control the stabilizer's operation with the Custom switch. In position 1, the stabilizer also makes the viewfinder image as smooth as possible, position 2 stabilizes during exposure but the viewfinder image reacts more to movement and this is suitable for shooting fast-moving subjects such as birds and sports because the framing is better. The Hämäävästi Off position is again an intermediate form of these.
The Sigma 150-600mm DG DN lens has three programmable AF-L buttons on the side, which you can use to lock focus or control the Sony camera, for example, activating EyeAF eye focus.
A sturdy lens hood is included. The edge of the lens hood is rubber, which allows you to place the camera and lens on the ground during long shooting sessions. The rubber surface increases grip on smooth surfaces and protects against impacts.
Like the Sports series lenses, Sigma's 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS is weather and dust protected.
