This is a new telephoto zoom designed for mirrorless cameras, not to be confused with the old 100-400mm model!
The Sigma 100-400mm is a long-awaited option for Sony photographers. This is designed for full-frame bodies but also works with APS-C Sonys, giving a cine equivalent focal length of 150-600mm.
The new optical design incorporates several special lenses. The focus motor is a fast and almost silent stepping motor. The lens is fully compatible with Sony's advanced functions such as EyeAF and DMF focusing. There is also a convenient dial on the side of the lens to limit the focusing distance.
The lens is very compatible with Sony bodies, meaning it is lightweight and compact in size for the image quality. The Sigma 100-400mm is designed for handheld shooting and does not come with a separate tripod collar, but this is available as an accessory (Sigma TS-111).
The bayonet is firmly attached to the body and has a durable metal construction. The lens is also weather and dust-protected in construction. The zoom lock also makes it easier to use if you let the lens hang on the camera at the end of the strap.
The Sigma 100-400 DG DN is compatible with the Sigma Dock, meaning you can update the lens and change focus settings directly from your computer. The lens has also been designed with future teleconverters in mind.
