The compact Nikon Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for Nikon Z-mount SLR cameras. For comparison, it is only half the weight of the Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 lens, a few grams lighter, and the same size as the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens.
It is also the first ultra-wide lens designed for a full-frame camera to feature a flat front element. This allows the lens to use standard 82mm filters without the need for heavy and perhaps complicated filter holders for plate filters.
Like the Nikkor Z lens, the control ring is programmable. The default function is manual focus, but you can also program the ring to adjust aperture, ISO sensitivity, or exposure compensation. In manual focus mode, the focus speed is determined by how quickly or slowly you turn the ring. This allows for very fine focusing at best.
The optical construction includes four aspherical elements and four ELD elements to reduce chromatic aberration. A Nano Crystal Coat reduces flare when shooting against backlight. The weather-sealed lens' front element is coated with a fluorine coating to help repel water, dust, and dirt.
