The Nikon 14-24mm was a classic lens for landscape photography on DSLRs. Now Nikon has updated this to the Z mount. There are high expectations for the lens.
When the Nikon Z6 and Z7 models were announced, the possibilities of the new larger bayonet in lens design were emphasized, especially for wide-angle lenses. And now one of the fruits of these possibilities is here. The Nikon 14-24 for Z-mount is sharper than its predecessor, its coatings are more advanced, and the optical design is modern. The lens elements are now really close to the sensor.
The front lens element of the previous version was spherical, now the outer element is flat. This leads to easier control of reflections and the possibility of using filters! For filters, you need the included HB-96 lens hood and the size is rare 112mm, but both Nikon and quality manufacturer B+W make filters in this size. Like many ultra-wide angles, the lens also has a slot for 40.5mm gelatin filters on the back of the lens.
The Nikon Z 14-24mm features 16 elements in 11 groups, three aspherical and four ED lenses, as well as ARNEO and Nano Crystal coatings. What does this all mean? Sharp detail across the entire image area, with minimal distortion in geometry. This is suitable for capturing buildings as well as detailed landscapes.
In addition, special attention has been paid to point-like light sources and to minimizing coma, meaning that small details at the edges of the image are not distorted, which means accurate reproduction of thousands of stars in stargazing!
The Nikon 14-24mm is weather-sealed and the lens's wide front element is coated with a fluorine coating that repels dirt and makes cleaning easier.
