The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 S offers a classic 35mm focal length for Nikon Z mount SLR cameras. The fast prime lens is dust and splash resistant.

The Z lens features a wide, quiet electronic control ring, making it ideal for both stills and video shooting. The lens' focusing system causes very little if any focus breathing, i.e., changes in image size when focusing.

Like the Nikkor Z 50mm lens, the control ring is programmable. The default function is manual focus, but you can also program the ring to adjust aperture, ISO sensitivity, or exposure compensation. In manual focus mode, the focus speed is determined by how quickly or slowly you turn the ring. This allows for very fine focusing at best.

The only niggle with the Nikkor Z 35mm lens is the switch on the side that switches between autofocus and manual focus.

The optical design includes two aspherical elements and two ELD (extra-low dispersion) elements to reduce chromatic aberration. A Nano Crystal Coat reduces flare when shooting against backlight. The weather-sealed lens' front element is coated with a fluorine coating to help repel water, dust, and dirt.
