This 35mm focal length lens is the most traditional pair for Leica cameras. It can handle both portraits and landscapes. The Summicron version means excellent image quality at full aperture and a compact size.

This Summicron-M is in a way the basic, uncomplicated model, meaning it doesn't have the special features of the APO version, but it does have one aspherical lens element. The recipe is a traditional optical structure and top-class mechanical quality, meaning the image is sharper from edge to edge for even the most demanding photographer, and in addition to sharpness, the out-of-focus areas are beautifully smoothed. There's nothing special to say about the lens, it works and takes beautiful pictures decade after decade.

For those used to SLR cameras, the Summicron 35mm is almost graceful. But the usability has been honed over the decades to perfection. The aperture control, the feel of the focus ring, and the built-in lens hood feel familiar and work excellently.
