Focal length 50mm and aperture F2 but priced like a watch. In short, this is technically the best Leica-M lens and the next longer version:
This APO Summicron-M 50 is a masterpiece of Leica's optical skills. The MTF curves are like from a textbook, the microcontrast, the sharpness in the entire image area is unparalleled and on the other hand the areas outside the depth of field are drawn beautifully and softly. The apochromatic structure eliminates all color errors around details. The properties are also fully sufficient for high-resolution bodies such as the M11, it comes with a lens element that moves with the FLE focus so the performance is the same at different focusing distances.
Like the Leica M lenses, this one is small and light. The mechanical quality of the lens is also reminiscent of the previously mentioned value watches. The design, materials and machining are top-notch. The focus ring and aperture ring work precisely.
Focusing is aided by a handy focus tap, meaning that in addition to the viewfinder, you can already see the focus position by moving the lever when you shoot more with the lens. Focusing from a distance of 70cm to infinity rotates around 90 degrees, meaning that you can take different pictures with small movements. The lens hood is a built-in, lift-up type.
The APO-Summicron 50mm is suitable for photographers who demand a lot from their equipment. This version is surprisingly often used with an adapter on mirrorless cameras, even though it is a manual focus lens.
