Why get a subwoofer?

Many people think a subwoofer is just for "extra bass" or rumble. In reality, adding the 7040A to your system improves the accuracy of the entire soundstage.

When the subwoofer handles the heaviest low frequencies (below 85 Hz), the main speakers are freed up to reproduce the midrange much more cleanly and with greater dynamics. You will hear the details of vocals and instruments better, while the bass becomes tighter and more extended. Furthermore, in electronic music and movies, the lowest octave is often a critical mood setter that goes unheard without a subwoofer.

Is the 7040A or 7050C the right choice for me?

Choosing between the two is usually easy based on the intended use and your main speakers:

• Choose the 7040A if you have Genelec 8010 or 8020 series (or the home audio versions G One and G Two) speakers and work in stereo (2.1 system). This model is optimized precisely for these speakers. It is lightweight, narrow, and easy to place.
• Consider the larger 7050C model if you have larger speakers (such as the 8030), need more sound pressure, or work with multi-channel audio (5.1 surround).

This is, of course, also perfectly suited for G One and G Two models with the appropriate adapter cables!

Placement is easier than you think

Placing a subwoofer intimidates many, but with Genelec, it is straightforward. Because low frequencies are non-directional, the subwoofer doesn't need to be in the middle of the floor.

In fact, the 7040A is designed to be placed close to a wall. The proximity of a wall naturally supports bass reproduction. If the sound is boosted too much, the rear panel features "Bass Roll-Off" switches that allow you to attenuate the bass to perfectly suit your room. So, you can safely place the sub under your desk, out of the way. And placement is also made easier by the device's surprisingly small size.

Genelec's patented LSE enclosure (Laminar Spiral Enclosure) is a technical masterpiece. The spiral-shaped structure forms an extremely long reflex port in a small space, which enables deep and clean bass without port noise or distortion.

The device features 2x XLR inputs and 2x XLR outputs for the main speakers. The built-in crossover automatically handles the frequency division between the subwoofer and the main speakers.
