Fuji manufactures high-quality and expensive lenses for film and TV production cameras under the Fujino brand. Now the same expertise is being used for a compact, go-anywhere zoom lens.
The XF 18-120mm, which was released at the same time as the Fuji X-H2S camera, was a perfect match for the new camera. Its special feature is the parfocality familiar from film lenses, meaning that the focus does not change when zooming, so the electronic control allows for zooming and the subject to remain sharp at all times. You can also focus on the subject at a longer focal length to be sure of focus and take a video or photo with a wider setting without intermediate focusing.
The Fuji 18-120mm is fully electric in operation, meaning aperture adjustment, focus and zooming are controlled electronically using a motor. This has several advantages, the speed of the zoom ring is adjustable, and a rocker switch can be used for zooming, like a camcorder. All lens functions can be controlled from the camera's touchscreen and, with the X-H2S, remotely via a smart device.
The aperture adjustment also works electronically and in automatic mode the aperture reacts very quickly, meaning that when shooting video, when switching to different lighting conditions, the camera adjusts the aperture so quickly that the video exposure remains the same.
In addition to its video capabilities, the XF 18-120mm is of guaranteed Fuji quality, meaning the image quality is also sharp at the edges of the image. It is a great fit as the only lens, for example.
