The Celestron Nextar Evolution is, as its name suggests, an improved version of the popular Nexstar telescopes. The Goto tracking motor here is from the robust Evolution series and the telescope itself is praised for its Celestron EdgeHD 203mm aperture. The image is very well corrected. This set is suitable for a wide range of observation, visual viewing and astrophotography at a very high level.

So the changes are comprehensive! The same is true of the Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, meaning that an impressive 230mm focal length is achieved in a physically small package. Wifi, previously offered as an option, is now integrated as standard . Through the Celestron application designed for smartphones and tablets, you can control the telescope and see a list of objects worth looking at (the objects are updated automatically according to time and location).

The Celestron Nexstar Evolution has a powerful internal battery that can last all night long even in cold temperatures , eliminating the need to hook up power banks to the tripod or change batteries. The battery is said to last for about 10 hours, and the tripod has a USB port, so you can charge your phone or power your camera through the telescope.

The tripod that handles tracking and target search is more sturdy, includes a worm gear solution and more powerful motors for the first time in devices of this level. With the power on, the tripod functions as a manual tripod using switches and you can aim it directly by moving it manually.

The accuracy of the motor and mechanism is now at a level where Celestron says photography is possible directly, i.e. just add a camera-specific adapter, attach a system camera and you can take astrophotos . For longer exposures, the Pro HD Wedge accessory is required, but apparently exposures of about half a minute would be possible directly.

However, as the hobby progresses, there may always be something to upgrade, such as a more sturdy foot section, possibly a 2' corner mirror and of course more eyepieces. This Nexstar 8' EdgeHD is of such a level that an upgrade is not wasted.
