The Zeiss Conquest HDX 8x32 is a compact all-purpose binocular from the HDX series. It is designed especially for the mobile person who values ??lightness and small size, but wants to retain the sharpness and color purity of Zeiss HD optics. The 8x magnification provides a very stable image and a wide field of view.

The Conquest HDX features Zeiss FieldFlattener technology to improve edge sharpness. In a standard binocular optical design, the image starts to soften towards the edges, but with FieldFlattener technology, sharpness remains consistent across the entire image area. In effect, a bird moving at the edge or a distant landmark is just as sharp as an object in the center of the image.

Optical performance and light collection

The 8x32 model's optical quality is based on the same technologies as the larger models in the series. ED lenses reduce chromatic aberration, or color error, and the Zeiss T* multi-layer coating ensures natural colors. The special feature of this model is the wide field of view it offers of 140 meters (at a distance of 1000 meters), which is more than in the larger 42mm models. The wider field of view is especially useful in forest terrain or when tracking fast-moving objects.

Since the objective lens of the binoculars is 32mm, its light gathering ability is more moderate than that of larger models. The twilight number in this model is 16 and the exit pupil diameter is 4mm.

In practice, this means that the binoculars are excellent during the day, in cloudy weather and in early twilight. However, they do not offer the same light output in the deepest twilight as, for example, 42mm or 56mm versions, where the larger exit pupil is able to transmit more light to the human eye in low light.

Usability and viewing distances

Ergonomics are optimized for active use. The focus wheel movement is smooth, allowing for quick reactions. The Conquest HDX 8x32 is also ideal for observing the details of nature, as its closest focusing distance is only 1.5m. This makes it a suitable tool for studying, in addition to birds, butterflies, insects or other very close objects. The 18mm eye relief and adjustable eyecups ensure that the entire field of view is available even with glasses.

The magnesium body is durable and rubber-coated. Thanks to its small size and 630 grams weight, the binoculars are well-balanced to carry all day, and can fit in a large jacket pocket or a small backpack if necessary.

Choice within the model range

In the Conquest HDX series, the 8x32 is the optimal choice for travel, hiking, and daytime observation where mobility is a priority. If the observation is mainly in very low light, such as in dense, dim forests or at dusk on a birdwatching tower, the 8x42 model is preferable due to its greater light-gathering ability.

If you need more detail in distant objects and use the binoculars mainly during daylight hours, the 10x32 is a compact option that brings the object closer, but offers a slightly narrower field of view than this 8x32 model.
