The Zeiss Conquest HDX 8x56 is a special binocular for low-light use. A large 56mm objective lens, 7mm exit pupil and HD optics ensure a bright image in very low light.

The Zeiss Conquest HDX 8x56 is a true low-light specialist in its model range. It is designed for situations where light is scarce: late evening twilight, early mornings and dense forests.
The large 56mm objective lens combined with 8x magnification gathers the maximum amount of light, providing an exceptionally bright and contrasty image when smaller binoculars have to give up.
The Conquest HDX features Zeiss FieldFlattener technology to improve edge sharpness. With a standard binocular optical design, the image starts to soften towards the edges, but with FieldFlattener technology, sharpness remains consistent across the entire image field. In practice, this means that distant objects are as sharp at the edges as they are in the center, making it easier to see in low light.
The superiority of these binoculars lies in their large 56mm front lens and Abbe-König prisms, which have been specifically selected to maximize light transmission. When the 56mm lens is divided by the 8x magnification, the exit pupil diameter is a massive 7mm.
This corresponds to the maximum dilation of the human eye's pupil in the dark, meaning the binoculars transmit all the light that the eye can receive to the eye. The binoculars have a night vision index of 21.2. Together with ED lenses and Zeiss T* coating, the image is incredibly bright and detailed in very low light.
Due to the large objective lens and prisms, the 8x56 is physically larger and heavier (approximately 1265g) than the smaller models in the series. However, the greater mass brings inexorable stability to viewing, and with 8x magnification the image remains calm even when held handheld. The focus wheel is fast and precise, and the adjustable eyecups (18mm eye relief) make viewing comfortable even with glasses. The body is covered with a non-slip rubber coating, which protects the device and ensures a firm grip.
If you are mainly observing in dim or dark conditions – for example, at a birdwatching tower in the early hours of the morning or for other demanding observations – the Conquest HDX 8x56 is the absolute number one choice in the series. If you need more precise identification of objects from afar, you can consider the sister model 10x56, but its 5.6mm exit pupil is a bit dimmer in the darkest conditions. For a lot of mobile hiking and daylight viewing, the lighter 42mm or 32mm models in the series may be more ergonomic options.
