Tamro's new lens with a very interesting focal length! The common 24-70mm and 16-35mm zooms are familiar, but the 20-40mm f/2.8 is an unprecedented combination.
This one falls a little short of both extremes, but still gets a very good wide angle and 40mm is already on the side of a normal lens. In other words, the 20-40mm can replace two lenses for many. When you add a good f/2.8 aperture and a smart size to the equation, we could imagine that this will become a very popular lens for Sony photographers.
The Tamron 20-40mm features the manufacturer's new VDX focusing motor, which means the lens can keep up with newer Sony bodies. EyeAF and Fast Hybrid AF features are also supported.
The Tamron 20-40mm F2.8 is designed for full-frame mirrorless bodies and is therefore surprisingly compact. The filter thread is the standard 67mm for Tamron, meaning a polarizing filter purchased for this size will fit many lenses. In addition, it weighs only 365g, making it a great travel lens and works well with gimbals.
Customization of the lens software and settings can be achieved using Tamron's USB Dock and Lens Utility software.
The Tamron 20-40mm is constructed with moisture protection and the outer lens surface is treated with a fluorine coating that makes cleaning easier.
