The Tamron 11-20 is a very fast zoom for Canon APS-C sensor cameras such as the EOS R7 and R50. With full-frame cameras, this can be used for video shooting, for example, with a crop setting.
The lens is the first of its kind, meaning that such a wide and bright zoom lens has never been released for Sony bodies before. This focal length is great for landscape photography.
Thanks to its fast autofocus and 17-30mm equivalent focal length, this is a really good general purpose lens for video shooting as well. The lens weighs only 335g, making it well suited for use with gimbals.
The optical construction is complex by today's standards, with 12 elements in 10 groups and a lot of special lenses to eliminate image errors. The coating used is the BBAR-G2, familiar from Tamron's new lenses, which reduces reflections, meaning that shooting against backlighting is a breeze.
The Tamron 11-20mm focuses very close, at 15cm at its wide angle setting and 24cm at the 20mm setting. This is not macro, but focusing this close gives you some great opportunities for angles.
