The Tamron 18-300mm is a superzoom lens for Nikon's APS-C sensor size system cameras. The emphasis is on the word super because the equivalent focal length in film is a whopping 27-450mm. The lens weighs 625g and is a little over 12cm long, so this is very suitable as the only lens for travel use.
The lens is also weather-sealed and the front lens surfaces are coated with a material that makes it easy to clean. The zoom can be locked, meaning the lens won't come loose when hanging from the strap. This means you can take it out of the bag and hang it over your shoulder, and the camera is ready to capture the wonders of nature.
The closest focusing distance is only 15cm in the wide-angle position, meaning this lens is capable of 1:2 so-called half-macro magnification.
The Tamron 18-300mm features a fast VDX focusing motor and optical image stabilization. This Canon RF-S version has switches for autofocus/manual focus and image stabilization. The lens's compact size is also evidenced by the very reasonable 67mm filter thread.
