The Sigma 35mm F1.4 was the first lens in the Art series and started an era of very high quality lenses at Sigma. Now this classic has been completely revamped!
The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art is designed for mirrorless cameras, meaning it is lighter and smaller than the previous version. The optical design has been completely redesigned, the autofocus is new, and the innovations made over the 10 years of Art lenses are now available.
This means you'll have a versatile lens, this works well for both landscape and portrait photography, you can also get space around the subject, but the image won't have the distortion of a wider focal length.
The aperture is very good at F1.4 and this is already available at full aperture. In addition, coma error is minimized, meaning stars and point-like lights are drawn nicely in the images, the lens tolerates backlighting brilliantly and most importantly, the feel of the image is also in order: thanks to the aperture and the 11 rounded diaphragm plates, the parts outside the depth of field are drawn beautifully and softly.
But in dim light and where the image is in focus, there is a lot of resolution and sharpness, even if the body has over 60 megapixels.
A big change has also been made to the autofocus. The Sigma 35mm DG DN features a fast stepping motor that moves a single lightweight focusing element. This makes focusing fast and responsive, making it great for video shooting.
For manual focus, the lens has a wide and tactile focus.
Like the new DG DN lenses, the Sigma 35mm F1.4 features an aperture ring that is appreciated by active photographers. For fast-paced situations, this ring can be locked and the camera's automatic aperture control can be used.
The lens also features a focus mode selector and an AF-L button for locking focus. This can be freely repositioned on Sony bodies for other purposes, such as activating EyeAF focus. The switch is designed in a convenient location and can be activated conveniently with your thumb.
Designed for professional use, the Sigma 35mm F1.4 is weather and dust-protected. The protection is between the buttons and joints, and around the bayonet.
