The Sigma 300-600mm F4 is a solid super telephoto zoom. The lens combines a versatile 300-600mm focal length with a fixed F4 aperture. This is part of the manufacturer's Sports series, meaning it is weather-protected and offers pleasing image quality for even the most demanding photographer, combined with fast autofocus.

Sigma promises in their materials that the image quality is on par with fixed prime lenses. We look forward to testing this claim!

Panasonic has great fixed telephoto lenses, but a telephoto zoom with such a long focal length and a similar level has been missing from the selection, so the Sigma lens is a really interesting novelty for many nature photographers, for example. The lens is not light or small: it weighs just under 4kg, although the lens hood is made of formula-style carbon fiber and is about 47cm long, so the main goal of the design has been uncompromising image quality.

The long focal length allows you to photograph wildlife or even small birds from a distance and in detail. The subject is sharp and the backgrounds, if desired, at full aperture, bring the subject out nicely.

Handheld photography is also aided by an optical image stabilizer, which has a power of five aperture values. The stabilizer is Sigma's latest version containing OS2 software and has two modes, Mode 1 for normal photography and Mode 2 when following subjects such as athletes or vehicles by panning, i.e. following in a certain direction. Sigma's stabilizer can take into account the tracking regardless of which direction the movement is proceeding, i.e. also diagonally and also works in vertical photography.

The usability of raw image quality is one of the most important features of these lenses. The Sigma 300-600mm f/4 includes a programmable control ring. In addition, there are three programmable AF-L buttons on the front of the lens for activating the focus feature, for example. The lens has an aperture control ring, this control ring also has an automatic setting and lock. .

Due to the large front lens, there is no filter thread, but you can use 40.5mm drop-in filters on the rear of the lens.

The zoom and focus are internal, meaning the lens size does not change and the center of gravity also remains more or less the same when using a tripod, for example. The tripod foot is removable and is also directly Arca-swiss compatible, meaning the lens can be attached to a tripod or monopod securely and without quick release plates.

Focusing is handled by the HLA High Response Linear Actuator focus motor. This means the lens features Sigma's latest technology. This type of lens is often used to photograph fast-moving subjects, whether it's an athlete, a bird, or an airplane, so speed is beneficial.

Weather protection is good, like Sigma's Sports series.
