Samyang is known especially among Sony photographers for its affordable and high-quality lenses. Now Samyang has announced its first zoom lens and the first one chosen is the demanding 24-70mm F2.8 zoom, so there are competitors. We are eagerly awaiting the tests because this could be a lens for active photographers too!

Although this is a new lens released only for non-gaming cameras, Samyang has not gone for the lightweight line like the Sigma 28-70 or Tamron 28-75mm lenses. The Samyang includes a clearly wider 24mm focal length and also weighs over a kilo! So the mechanical quality is solid and there are a lot of lens elements, which promises good image quality.

Samyang 24-70mm F2.8 is parfocal, meaning the lens focus remains in place even when zooming! This is usually a feature of more expensive film lenses. So now you can focus at a 70mm focal length (for example, on the subject's eyes or details) and the focal length can be adjusted to suit and the focus remains in place. This also allows for different zoom ranges in video shooting.

For video shooting, focus breathing has also been minimized, meaning the image does not change disturbingly during focusing. In addition, the focus motors are quieter but faster Samyang STM motors. The focus ring works linearly when adjusted manually, meaning the use of follow focus adjustments is straightforward.

Samyang talks a lot about videographers, but this 24-70mm F2.8 is also great for all photography in terms of brightness and image quality. Several different special lenses are used to ensure that the image quality is as good as possible at all focal lengths and also at the edges of the image.

The Samyang FE 24-70mm f/2.8 is weather sealed. A lens hood is also included.
