This is an interesting new lens from Samyang. A fast and autofocus wide-angle. With the flick of a switch, this becomes a specialist lens for landscape photography and astrophotography!
In this astrophotography mode, the lens goes into MF mode, focuses to infinity and indicates that the focus is OK with a green LED. If the focus ring is turned, the lens indicates that the focus is not OK with a red LED.
Since infinity focus is different on different bodies, you can calibrate this adjustment yourself, it can be done with a distant object or a bright star, and the setting can be saved in the lens's memory.
Otherwise, the lens is a modern Samyang, meaning it has a Focus Hold button like Sony's better lenses. The focus ring also allows you to adjust the aperture value.
The optical design is quite complex, with a total of 11 lens elements in the Samyang 24mm F1.8, including 7 special elements (2 asph, 3 hr and 2 ED). This is to ensure the most accurate image detail even at the edges of the image and to minimize coma, an important issue in stargazing.
For other uses, the lens has 9 rounded diaphragm blades, which gives a soft, beautiful outline of the background outside the focus area.
The lens has weather protection in five areas against dust and moisture.
