The popular VideoMic Pro microphone features Rode's patented Rycote "floating" spring frame, which effectively prevents camera operation sounds from being recorded into the microphone. The Rycote mount has a 1/4" thread at the bottom, so the microphone can also be attached to a camera tripod.
The VideoMic Pro is based on a high-quality ½-inch condenser capsule that transmits broadcast-quality audio signals via a 3.5mm mini-plug connector. The supercardioid polar pattern minimizes ambient noise from the audio track. The microphone has a built-in elastic suspension that effectively dampens handling noise and other mechanical interference.
The VideoMic Pro also includes an 80Hz bass cut and a -10 dB pad. For quieter sound sources, a +20 dB boost can be switched on, which helps to avoid the increase in noise floor caused by the SLR camera's microphone preamp.
The VideoMic Pro can be attached directly to the camera or alternatively to a microphone stand with a 3/8-inch thread. The microphone is battery-operated and can provide up to 70 hours of recording time with a single 9V battery (sold separately).
