Originally, Nikon had announced plans for a mirrorless lens that included a 24-105mm F4 lens. Now the lens is public and the focal length extension to 24-120mm was a pleasant surprise. This is a quality that falls between the 24-70mm F4 kit lens and the professional 24-70mm F2.8.

The Nikon 24-120mm F4 offers a versatile focal length for all types of photography, from sweeping landscapes to detailed portraits. The aperture is a fixed F4 throughout the zoom range.

The lens is completely new, meaning nothing has been spared from the mirror version's 24-120mm lens. The lens has 16 lens elements in 13 groups, and several of these are special elements that eliminate image aberrations. The closest focusing distance is 35cm.

Two separate focus motors handle autofocus. Because Nikon bodies include a stabilizer in the body, this 24-120mm lens is the lightest in its class, according to the manufacturer.

The Nikon 24-120mm F2 is an S-series lens, meaning it is weather and dust protected and the outer lens element is coated to repel dirt.
