The Kowa TSN-88A Prominar is a new version of the Kowa TSN-883 telescope, a regular visitor to Finnish birdwatching towers, which borrows features from its big brother, the TNS-99A. The biggest change, in addition to the appearance, is the updated lens coatings and prism coatings.
This telescope package includes: Kowa TSN-88A telescope and Kowa TE-11WZ II 25-60x wide angle zoom eyepiece.
The magnesium-bodied Kowa TSN-88A telescope body is 34.2 cm long (without eyepiece) and weighs 1.46 kg . Like the previous Prominar series telescopes, this one naturally has an XD lens and a fluorite crystal lens, which minimize chromatic aberrations and provide the sharpest possible image.
The fully waterproof and dustproof body is also filled with nitrogen gas to prevent internal fogging. A retractable lens hood protects the front lens from rain and sun glare.
Like the Kowa TSN telescopes, this TNS-88A telescope also has a dual-action focusing mechanism. This means that there are two focusing screws to adjust the focus. The larger focusing screw is used for coarse (and fast) focusing, while the smaller focusing screw is used for fine-tuning. The focusing knobs are conveniently located on the body of the telescope, so they are easy to operate with your index and middle fingers.
The tripod shoe has two screw holes (3/8" and 1/4" with the included adapter), which allows the quick release plate to be attached to two screws. This prevents the telescope from rotating relative to the quick release plate.
Eyepieces that fit telescopes are attached with a bayonet and a locking mechanism prevents the eyepiece from falling out on its own.
