The Fuji X-E5 is a very interesting camera for many: it features the latest technology, a 40 megapixel sensor , for the first time in the history of the XE series, an effective 6-stop image stabilizer , Fuji's latest autofocus technologies, and surprisingly great video recording capabilities.
But what is the best feature of the new product? The feeling when you pick up the camera, the joy when you start shooting. The Fuji X-E5 includes the manufacturing innovations required by the GF100RF top camera, this is machined from a single piece of aluminum, so it feels and looks like a design product. The appearance and usability borrow a lot from the super popular X100VI and the image quality is also at the same level thanks to the technology.
The Fuji X100 would be a go-to camera for many due to its image quality, but the fixed 35mm equivalent lens has been a barrier for many. Now with the X-E5 you can get both, a first-class feel when shooting and proven image quality combined with the possibilities of interchangeable lenses!
The camera's sensor is based on the same technology used in the X-T5, which is still top-notch. This 40MP image sensor is the highest resolution available in an APS-C sensor size - from any manufacturer!
In addition to the sensor, the processor is also the latest 5th generation version and in addition to the computing power, the algorithms have also been updated. The Fuji X-E5's algorithms have been trained with millions of different subject variations and are partly the same as those in the top model GFX 100 II.
And this is reflected in the camera's improved ability to recognize objects such as vehicles (cars, various airplanes, motorcycles, bicycles, trains), animals (birds, dogs, horses) and of course people (even with masks and glasses). In addition to face detection, the camera has eye-detection focus.
Focusing is easy to talk about when talking about artificial intelligence and processors in technical terms. But in practice, the X-E5 includes fast and modern focusing, and this is really useful when you want to react quickly to events when shooting, whether it's street photography in the hustle and bustle of a big city or looking for just the right smile and composition at a family party.
Image stabilization has been incorporated around the sensor, a first for the XE series. The power is 7 stops in the center of the image and 6 stops at the edges, in line with today's stricter standards.
At first glance, you can see that the camera has been inspired by the X100VI and GF100RF. The design also goes deeper, meaning that this is not only a beautiful device but also works for even the most demanding photographer, offering quick access to the most important settings.
The body is now heavier than the previous version, and machined from a solid piece of metal. The buttons and controls have just the right amount of feedback and you can feel the mechanical quality in your fingers. The top of the camera above the screen is beveled to better display the adjustment dials while protecting them from accidental adjustments. There are also more adjustment dials than in the previous version, including a dedicated dial for selecting presets with a very stylish peephole.
Control level is a completely new control , this switch on the front of the camera that looks like a traditional self-timer is versatile and contains many settings:
The strength of FujiFilm cameras is their excellent film simulations. Fuji has decades of experience with different films and how colors behave, and this expertise is also used in the digital side. The camera basically has 20 different presets, and there are also comprehensive adjustments for customization, including grain simulation.
In addition, the camera now has three slots for FS custom simulations that can be downloaded from the Fuji community, for example. These have their own slots on the adjustment wheel, and you can quickly experiment with how the image changes with the control level button.
The Fujifilm X-E5 features a traditional electronic viewfinder, meaning it doesn't have a hybrid viewfinder like the X100VI. However, the camera does include a Classic viewfinder mode that flirts with film time, where the amount of information in the viewfinder is reduced to the amount of film time, the font is a more electronic red, and the exposure balance is indicated by a fun (but somewhat inaccurate) pointer in the style of film frames.
Compared to the Fuji X-E4 body, this one has a small but much more supportive grip, meaning that the camera can be handled better with one hand and with a heavier lens. In addition, the grip and buttons are designed in such a way that you don't have to change your grip when adjusting settings, meaning the design has been done right: to improve usability and not just for cosmetic reasons.
The focus switch has been moved from the menus to the side of the camera, which makes selecting the focus mode much faster.
Video is recorded at up to 6.2K 30P or 4K 60P. 6.2K and 4K 60P video has a small crop (1.23X and 1.14X) and 4K 30P video is created from the entire width of the sensor. F-log with a wide tonal range is used, as well as beautiful tones and the Eterna color setting that creates a smooth file suitable for video shooting. In addition, for editing, the video file color depth is 10bit 4:2:2 even when saving to a memory card.
The Fuji X-E5 includes a microphone jack and via the USB-C connector you can also use an adapter to get a headphone output for audio monitoring.
Fuji is at its best when you want to create eye-pleasing and high-quality images directly in the camera, so if you want a nice picture to use straight away, Fuji is a great choice. Images can be transferred directly to your phone wirelessly with Fuji's new XApp software, and the camera can also be controlled and released remotely.
The same premium braided strap as the GF100RF is included.
