Sony's 70-200mm F4 G OSS is a lighter and more compact alternative to the fast Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master. The lens is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras like the Sony a7 and a9, but also works with the Sony Nex and a6500, providing a 105-300mm telephoto zoom.

The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS is similar in usability to the top G Master models. The lens is robust in construction and is dust and weather sealed to withstand professional use .

The lens has a focus selector switch, but manual focus correction is also possible in automatic mode. The feel of the focus ring is damped and precise, as is typical of Sony's quality optics. Focus can be limited to a range of three meters to infinity, which usually speeds up autofocus speed if the subject is a little further away.

The image stabilizer can be turned off when using a tripod, and the settings include Mode 1 and 2. Mode 1 is for general use and 2. is a special so-called panning setting for tracking movement. Around the lens, there are focus lock buttons found on advanced super telephoto lenses from other manufacturers, pressing the button locks the autofocus.
