The Sony FE 16-35mm GM is a weather-sealed wide-angle zoom lens from the G-Master series (GM after the product name), Sony's flagship lens series, for E-mount mirrorless cameras. Suitable for both full-frame and small-frame cameras, the lens has a wide f/2.8 aperture across the entire focal length.

The SEL1635GM has the familiar G Masten lens quality in terms of construction and design, meaning the lens feels sturdy and otherwise excellent. The rubberized zoom ring feels nice and makes working in cold conditions more comfortable. There is a practical AF/MF switch on the side, which allows you to switch between autofocus and manual focus without having to go into the camera's menus.

The programmable Focus Hold (Fn) button is conveniently located on the left side of the lens, within easy reach of your thumb. It is possible to assign the desired function from the camera's menu to this focus hold button, such as Eye-AF.

The Sony SEL-1635GM is dust and splash-proof, and its front lens has a fluorine coating that repels dirt and grease.

The focusing mechanism consists of two floating assemblies driven by two DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) motors. This collaboration makes autofocusing both quiet, fast and reliable, making the lens excellent for both stills and video shooting.

The lens is constructed with two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements, two XA elements and three Aspherical lens elements. The high-quality lens elements help to combat distortion and chromatic aberration typical of wide-angle lenses, while maximizing edge sharpness. A Nano AR coating keeps ghosting and flare under control, especially in backlit conditions.

In addition to the lens hood, the lens comes with a zippered, padded protective case for the lens.
