The Nikon Monarch M5 12x50 is designed for situations where you need high magnification for detailed observation of distant objects, but still need to be light enough to carry. The large 50mm front objective lens helps you distinguish objects even in low light, such as during dawn birding or when observing timid animals moving in open terrain.
Lightest 50mm binoculars in their class with high magnification: Despite the high magnification of the 12x50 model, the glass-fiber reinforced polycarbonate body weighs only 650g. In addition, its wide 60.8 degree apparent field of view makes it much easier to spot and track fast-moving objects compared to narrower tubes.
The binoculars' optical performance relies on ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass , which minimizes chromatic aberration, producing a sharp and clear image. The prisms have a high-reflectivity dielectric multilayer coating, which, together with the multilayer coatings on the other lenses, improves light transmission and ensures natural color reproduction.
The large 12x magnification brings even the most distant objects, such as ships at sea or birds on the opposite shore, close in. The 98m field of view (at 1000 meters) keeps the landscape wide enough to follow the movements of the object.
The Monarch M5 is built to withstand varying weather conditions. The O-ring sealed construction is waterproof to a depth of 1m for 10min, and the internal nitrogen filling prevents the lenses from fogging up during rapid temperature changes. A rubber coating protects the device from external impacts and ensures a firm grip.
Adjustable rubber eyecups and a 16.4mm eye relief increase comfort, allowing even eyeglass wearers to adjust their viewing position to suit them.
Since the 12x magnification amplifies natural hand shake, it is recommended to use a tripod for long-term observation. The front of the binoculars has a standard thread to which you can attach the separately sold Nikon TRA-3 tripod adapter or any other similar L-shaped adapter with a 1/4" thread. When viewed from a tripod, the high magnification really comes into its own, as the image remains completely stable.
