The Leica Noctivid Compact 8x25 is a premium pocket-sized binocular designed specifically for the mobile nature observer, birdwatcher and traveler. It continues Leica's tradition by introducing the successor to the previous Ultravid series, combining excellent optical performance, elegant design and reliable durability.

Eight times magnification and 25mm lenses provide the ideal balance between lightness and a stable viewing experience.

Although it is a pocket-sized model, user experiences among birdwatchers, for example, show that the Noctivid Compact feels like a much larger pair of binoculars. The sharpness of the image and the general handling of the binoculars are reminiscent of full-size binoculars. Thanks to the clever dual-hinge, the binoculars take up very little space when folded, but when opened they are mechanically solid and have excellent adjustment response.

Optical performance and light collection

The optical quality of the Leica Noctivid 8x25 is designed to provide a sharp image across the entire field of view, right up to the edges. The device uses roof prisms that have been treated with P40 phase correction. In roof prisms, the light rays are structurally split in two, which can blur the image without high-quality correction. The P40 coating ensures that the light rays remain perfectly aligned. In practice, this is visible to the user as better contrast and sharper outlines of objects.

In addition, the prisms utilize Leica's HighLux-System (HLS) technology. It acts as a highly efficient mirror inside the prism, minimizing all light loss. This allows more light to reach the eye, resulting in an exceptionally bright image and pure colors. The outer surfaces of the lenses have an HDC multi-layer coating, which not only improves light transmission to as much as 90 percent, but also protects the lenses from scratches and dirt.

Despite the compact 25mm objective lens diameter, the binoculars' generous 3.1mm exit pupil gives them very good light output for their size. This makes them a versatile companion for bright daylight, dawn and early dusk. The closest focusing distance is only two meters, making them ideal for close-up viewing of butterflies, flowers and works of art.

Usability, structure and durability

Ergonomics have been optimized for easy and fast use. The double-hinged design allows the optical tubes to fold neatly under the bridge, minimizing the space the binoculars take up in a pocket or backpack. The focus wheel is low-profile but solidly constructed, making adjustments precise and smooth.

The viewing comfort is also good for eyeglass wearers: 15 mm eye relief and rotating, removable eyecups with two locking notches ensure the correct viewing distance. In addition, the binoculars' eye relief is exceptionally widely adjustable between 37 and 84 mm, so the device fits comfortably on almost all users' faces.

The core of the binoculars is a lightweight yet hard-wearing aluminium frame, which is filled with nitrogen to prevent internal fogging. The device is fully waterproof to a depth of up to five metres. This basic version has a matte black Rubber Armoring coating, which provides a secure grip even in wet conditions and protects against impacts.
