The leather-covered Noctivid Compact feels luxurious in the hands, but optically it is a thoroughbred workhorse. The sharpness of the image and the general handling of the binoculars are reminiscent of large-sized binoculars. Thanks to the clever dual-hinge, the binoculars take up very little space when folded, but when opened they are mechanically solid and have excellent adjustment response.

Optical performance and light collection

The optical quality of the Leica Noctivid 8x25 is designed to provide a sharp image across the entire field of view, right to the edges. The device uses roof prisms that are treated with P40 phase correction. The P40 coating ensures that the light rays split by the prism remain perfectly aligned. In practice, this is reflected in the user as better contrast and sharper outlines of objects in the theater, at concerts or in nature.

In addition, the prisms utilize Leica's HighLux-System (HLS) technology, which acts as a highly efficient mirror inside the prism, minimizing light loss. The outer surfaces of the lenses have an HDC multi-layer coating, which improves light transmission to as much as 90 percent and protects the optics from everyday bumps.

Despite the compact 25 mm objective lens diameter, the binoculars' generous 3.1 mm exit pupil gives them very good light output for their size. The closest focusing distance is only two meters, making them ideal for detailed viewing of architecture and works of art as well as distant landscapes.
