The Leica Elmarit 28mm F2.8 is a handy-sized wide-angle lens for Leica rangefinder bodies. At only about 3cm long, the combination fits into a decent coat pocket, always ready to record situations. The size also has the advantage that despite its wide angle, the lens does not cover much of the rangefinder view. The small size is achieved with the Elmarit series' reasonable f2.8 aperture, but fortunately this is not a problem with modern bodies, even in low light.

In the Leica world, 28mm is usually associated with street photography, and this certainly fits the bill: a suitably dimmed aperture and focus tab focusing to the hyperfocal distance, for example , at an aperture of F8 the image is sharp between 1.8 and infinity if you pre-focus to about four meters. Combine this with Leica's minimal shutter lag and the constantly bright image of the viewfinder, and you'll be able to capture those crucial moments.

On the other hand, the 28mm lens is really great for landscape photography. The Elmarit-M 28mm is very well corrected for distortion and sharp even at the edges of the image field, so natural landscapes or wide city views are captured just right.
