The 56mm front lens, 7mm eyepiece diameter and Abbe-König prisms with excellent light transmission provide a bright field of view. The 8x56 binoculars are also powerful enough for observing before sunrise, when binoculars with smaller front lenses start to struggle. The performance is noticeable in the details the binoculars capture, whether objects are in the shadows of dimly lit hedges or as the last rays of sunlight sink below the horizon.

The magnesium alloy body of the GPO binoculars is lined with a non-textured rubber protective coating that covers the bridge and part of the binocular tubes. In addition to helping protect the optics, the rubber coating also allows for a slightly firmer grip, even when the binoculars' surface or palms are slightly wet.

The binoculars have a narrow central bridge, which allows them to be handled even with one hand. The binoculars are physically quite large, so this may not be the best option for long-term handheld viewing. A good accessory is a separately purchased binocular adapter that allows you to mount the binoculars on a tripod.

The rather large focus wheel, which fits under the index finger, is relatively slow in its transmission. From the closest (2.3m) focus distance to infinity, it takes a little over 1.5 turns (570°). The slowness is useful when you want to adjust the focus very precisely. The diopter adjustment (+- 2.5 dpt) is found behind the right eyepiece. The adjustment in question has a stiffer resistance, so it does not easily move to the wrong position accidentally.

The eye relief, or distance between the eye and the eyepiece, is 19mm, so these binoculars are also suitable for use with glasses.
