The DJI Mic 3 is closer in size to the DJI Mic Mini, but it takes another leap forward in terms of performance and features compared to the previous second model. Here are the most significant innovations listed:

It comes with two wireless microphones that transmit sound up to 400m away to a receiver that attaches to a camera, smart device or computer. The included charging case keeps the system always ready to use, and a USB-C adapter allows the receiver to be connected to a phone.

The transmitters' microphones are omnidirectional, meaning you can use them to record background sounds or conversations between several people, such as interviews. They can be attached directly to the performers using either a clip or a magnet. The transmitter can be connected to Osmo 360, Osmo Action 4 and 5, and Pocket 3 cameras or a smartphone via Bluetooth without a receiver.

The wide dynamic range of 32-bit recording provides even better sound quality, and audio levels can be adjusted afterwards without affecting sound quality, even if the levels are initially too quiet or loud.

Adaptive gain control includes two selectable modes. Automatic Mode prevents audio clipping and is suitable for sporting events where sound levels fluctuate dramatically. Dynamic Mode adjusts gain levels to respond to changes in sound levels. This mode is suitable for quiet indoor environments such as studios.

Two different levels of noise reduction, Basic for quiet indoor environments and Strong for louder environments. Also included are wind shields that effectively reduce extraneous sounds.

Three different "Tone preset" settings can be selected via the DJI Mimo app:

• Regular: clean, natural and balanced sound
• Rich: emphasis on low tones, fuller and more powerful sound
• Bright: emphasizes high tones, increases clarity

The DJI Mic 3 receiver can connect up to four transmitters at once. In addition, the receiver can synchronize audio with up to seven other receivers simultaneously, meaning this system has the ability to implement group interviews and multi-camera productions, for example. With compatible Sony cameras and computer applications, the receiver can output four independent audio tracks.

The transmitters’ internal storage stores the original audio track and an algorithmically enhanced audio track, including tone settings, low cut, noise reduction, and gain adjustments. These files can be transferred from the transmitters to a computer or phone for post-processing via the USB-C port. The files can also be downloaded via the DJI Mimo app.

Adjustments are made using the receiver's touchscreen and adjustment wheel or the DJI Mimo app. The battery lasts for 10 hours in the receiver and 8 hours in the transmitters, with the charging case providing up to 28 hours of use for the entire system. If needed, a quick five-minute charge will give the receiver and transmitters two hours of use.
