Canon EOS R System

The new Canon EOS R was the manufacturer's biggest update in over thirty years. Canon has mainly made cameras with three different systems. The Canon FD was a fully manual focus system. This was followed by the autofocus EOS system, first as film cameras and later as digital.

Camera technology has improved and instead of optical viewfinders, electronic viewfinders have become more common. Electronic viewfinders do not require a mirror mechanism, so the size of the camera body can be made smaller and the lens can be designed closer to the sensor. And at the same time, the entire system was redesigned, as the mount changes, so do the lenses.

Canon RF lenses and new lens mount

The Canon RF mount is a new lens mount for the EOS R series. The new mount brings the lens elements very close to the sensor and also provides more space for them. As a result, the Canon RF series lenses are designed from a completely clean slate.

The benefits include better image quality, including at the edges of the image. Faster data transfer between the camera and lens enables fast focusing and image stabilization transfer through the cooperation of the optics and the body.

Sometimes mirrorless cameras are associated with small size. But the first Canon RF lenses are not smaller than previous models, but rather the focus has been on the best possible image quality. The exceptions are a few new lenses like the RF 100-400mm and RF 16mm, which are compact in size.

The new bayonet also allows the use of adapters, meaning EF lenses can be seamlessly attached to the new bodies with the Canon EF-EOS R adapter .

Autofocus works even better using the adapter, the new focusing features work even on old bodies, and fast lenses focus flawlessly! So if you have had problems with focusing on, for example, 35mm F1.4 or 50mm F1.4 lenses, we recommend new bodies

Canon EOS R system cameras

Currently, the EOS R system includes six camera bodies:

Canon EOS RP : This is like the EOS 6D II but in a mirrorless version. Full-sensor image quality and RF support at a low price.

Canon EOS R : The first camera in the series. More megapixels, a better viewfinder and a larger battery, as well as faster focusing than the EOS RP.

Canon EOS R6 : Built-in powerful image stabilization, up to 20fps burst shooting and ultra-fast autofocus with automatic subject detection. 4K video recording without cropping. 20 megapixels and a sensitive sensor suitable for low-light photography.

Canon EOS R5 : Same features as the EOS R6 but with 8K Raw video recording, a 45-megapixel sensor, a sharper viewfinder, and better weather protection.

Canon EOS R3 : The top model of the EOS R series. 24 megapixels, very fast continuous shooting and autofocus. Robust weather protection and long battery life. Suitable for professional sports and nature photography.
