The lens has a fixed f/2.8 aperture for shooting in low light conditions. OSS (Optical SteadyShot) allows you to capture detailed images at longer exposures and handheld.

The DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) autofocus motor is fast, precise and virtually silent, allowing you to focus on stills and video. A dedicated macro switch allows the lens to focus as close as 57cm, allowing for more creative macro photography, along with the bokeh effect offered by the optics.

ED glass and aspherical elements provide detailed images from the center to the edges of the image. In addition, the optics' Nano AR coating effectively prevents flare and ghosting.
