The lens is compatible with APS-C sensor size cameras such as the Sony ZV-E10 and A6700. The cine equivalent focal length is 24-75, making this a very versatile lens. When powered on in transport mode, the lens is very compact, only about 3cm thick, and when the camera is on, the lens automatically switches to image capture mode.

This is a power zoom, meaning the zoom is controlled via a switch on the side or via a multi-function adjustment ring. The adjustment ring can also be used to adjust the focus. In addition, zoom control can also be achieved via the camera on compatible models!

The lens has an optical image stabilizer, which is said to have an effect equivalent to about four stops. One of the lens elements is ED glass and four are aspherical, which reduce image distortion.

The Sony 16-50mm II has been updated to work better with Sony's fast autofocus, focusing is adjusted up to 120 times per second, autofocus also works while zooming, and the lens's image stabilization works in conjunction with the body's stabilizers.
