The Sigma 45mm is a completely new lens made for mirrorless cameras. This is immediately noticeable at first glance at the size of the lens, previous models have included a built-in Sigma MC-11 adapter which is itself more than half the size of this lens. The maximum aperture is a reasonable 2.8 and thanks to this and the Sony body stabilizer, the size and weight of the lens have been kept very under control.

The design was based on bokeh, or the drawing of areas that are out of focus. The backgrounds of objects such as flowers and people are drawn particularly beautifully and softly.
Sigma has made a surprisingly bold choice in the design. The raw sharpness in close-ups at full aperture has been replaced by a slightly classic and beautiful drawing. The image quality of the lens even when shooting close-ups can be maximized when the aperture is stopped down to around F4. This is not a choice for shooting test subjects, but the images taken with this lens have their own distinctive atmosphere.

The lens is special because it has aperture control directly on the lens and works in conjunction with Sony's body exposure programs. The lens' design could be described as retro-modern, with traditional elements but the performance and technology are state-of-the-art. In addition, the lens has a good-feeling focus ring for manual focus. Autofocus is achieved using a fast and quiet STM motor and all of Sony's EyeAF features are supported, such as real-time tracking and animal eye detection.

The Sigma 45mm is a lens that can be recommended for those who shoot with a single lens tactic. This, combined with the Sony A7R III body, is a very compact and powerful package. You get all the benefits of the body's megapixels, but the camera set fits into a very small bag or hangs on your shoulder very easily. With this you can shoot landscapes and portraits, whether they are everyday recordings or professional images for demanding use.

The Sigma 45mm f2.8 is also dust and weather sealed. It comes with a design-matching and highly protective lens hood!
