Sigma's new I Series lenses like this 65mm and 35mm F2 are trendsetters for what mirrorless system optics should be like.
The Sigma 65mm F2 DG DN has a retro-modern design, the controls are traditional, and the mechanical quality is more reminiscent of the good old days than today's plastic zooms.
The 65mm focal length of the lens is a bit rarer. But with a full-frame body you now get a bit more background separation and this is suitable if the standard 50mm focal length feels a bit too boring. And of course the focal length is made to stand out from the previously released 45mm DG DN lens.
This 65mm is the same focal length as the telephoto lens on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. If you want to quickly take so-called test shots and try out different framings, you can do it with your phone, and when it's really time, take your Sony full-sensor camera and this lens out of your bag.
But inside there is a modern and new design, i.e. the optical design includes several special lenses. The image quality does not rely only on the camera's software correction, but the image quality is achieved with special lenses that eliminate distortion. The image quality is good right from the start at full aperture and is suitable for demanding work even at the edges of the image area.
Sigma's lenses in this quality range now include 24mm, 35mm, 45mm and 65mm focal lengths. If you're thinking of replacing a fast professional zoom with a prime, for example, this series offers a great opportunity. Take the 24mm and 65mm and pair them with your favorite intermediate focal length and the set is complete.
