A replacement for kit zooms! Very good image quality in a compact size and with a fixed F2.8 aperture. Thanks to the aperture, you can use much faster shutter speeds, i.e. shoot in darker conditions, and if you want, you can get a much shorter depth of field in your photos, i.e. beautifully soft backgrounds.
This is Sigma's first lens for Canon EOS R series bodies and offers a great alternative for photographers such as the EOS R10 and EOS R50. Canon itself only makes RF-S compatible 15-45 and 18-150mm zooms with variable and smaller apertures, and now Sigma is answering this need.
The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 is made in full collaboration with Canon, meaning there will be no issues with autofocus or compatibility. The lens is optically the same as the previous and acclaimed Sony-compatible version, but the autofocus has been tuned to be RF-compatible, and for even faster focusing, the lens supports Servo AF continuous focusing and Canon cameras' internal image distortion correction.
The 18-50mm is a very versatile focal length, it can handle both landscape and portrait photography. In addition, thanks to the aperture, depth of field is well controlled and shooting in low light is not a problem. If you only want to carry one lens with you, this is a great option!
Thanks to the smaller sensor size, the Sigma 18-50 is very compact and weighs only 290g, which is about the same as a regular kit zoom.
