Large sensor and versatile zoom

The camera is powered by a 1-inch sensor. Its large size allows it to capture a lot of light, which reduces graininess in images taken at dusk or indoors. Another advantage of a larger sensor is a narrower depth of field, which means you can get a nice, soft background in portraits, for example.

The Panasonic TZ300's 15x zoom gives you flexibility: you can shoot a wide landscape first and then zoom in on a distant animal or building detail. The cine-equivalent focal length is 24-360mm, from wide-angle to long telephoto.

The camera has a handy button that allows you to zoom out momentarily. For example, you can search for a small bird in the wide-angle position and by releasing the button, you get a detailed close-up of just the right spot.

The camera is also ideal for shooting very close subjects, such as insects and flowers, with a dedicated AF Macro focus mode, where the closest focusing distance is just 3cm. To prevent images from shaking when using the zoom, the camera has a built-in 5-axis image stabilizer.

Videos and capturing moments

The camera can record clear 4K video and slow-motion videos in Full HD quality, which is a fun way to record sports or fast-paced games of pets, for example. In 4K video, the image is cropped excessively, so the widest focal length is lost and the corresponding focal length range is approximately 35-500mm). Panasonic's 4K PHOTO function helps in situations where capturing the right moment is difficult: the camera records a short video clip at 30 frames per second, from which you can later browse and save the best frame as a separate 8 megapixel photo.

The same technology is also used in Post Focus and Focus Stacking, which allow you to select the exact focus point of an image or combine the depth of field of an image afterwards on the camera's screen. However, it is worth noting that the images captured with these special functions are 8 megapixels in size.

To be successful, post-focusing also requires that both the camera (for example, placed on a tripod) and the subject being photographed remain completely still during the shot, so it is best suited for taking still lifes or macro photos.

Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity let you wirelessly transfer images to your smartphone and share them instantly with friends. The battery is charged using a modern USB-C cable, so you can conveniently charge the camera from a power bank during a day of hiking.
