As you can tell from the name and image, this new camera is almost exactly the same as the Nikon Z5 II, but in a lighter and smaller version!

It features the acclaimed and very capable autofocus and comprehensive video recording features. A few buttons, a second memory card slot, and an electronic viewfinder have been omitted, so the price, weight, and especially the size are smaller.

Preview and control are possible from the touchscreen, shooting programs are included, Nikon image presets (also including RED options and content creators' own, for example) and the Film Grain function, known and praised from the Nikon Zf camera.

It promises clear photos even in low light, sharp photos and videos of children or pets, and video content that stands out from smartphone footage, for example for social media. The Nikon Z5 IIC can be a good option as a first full-frame camera or a second camera for the owner of a more powerful Nikon.

Smaller size and big features: AF, stabilization and continuous shooting

The Nikon Z5 IIC features a similar 3D Tracking autofocus as the top-of-the-line Z9 and Z8 models.

The internal image stabilization is effective at 7.5 stops, just like its big brother, the Z5 II. The stabilization helps you take sharp handheld photos in the dark, which is when the landscape and light are often at their best, such as at dusk.

The image sensor also helps with low-light photography, with a sensitivity of up to ISO 64000 – which is quite a feat compared to film. With the Nikon Z5 IIC camera, you get images with less noise than with older models.

Like the Nikon Z8, the body has a C30 burst mode, which means you can shoot 30 frames per second, and recording starts even before you press the shutter button! This feature allows you to time even fast-paced situations perfectly. Burst shooting only works with JPG images. Full-size RAW images can also be shot at a fairly fast rate of 11 frames per second.

The Nikon Z5 IIC features fast and modern autofocus. Like the top models, the system is AI-trained, meaning the camera quickly recognizes different shooting subjects and situations. The camera's focus recognizes ten different subject types, such as animals, vehicles and people. In addition, the camera has a popular separate bird mode, and as a special feature, there is also a focus mode that recognizes fish! The idea is that the camera works well with a diving housing for underwater photography, for example.

Fast autofocus is useful for more than just shooting fast-paced sports or birds in flight. The same features work for people and pets, meaning you get sharper images in everyday situations, whether your kids are running around or you want to capture a quick moment – ??keeping your subject in focus. And these features work for video too!

Picture Control color presets and Film Grain

There are traditional automatic modes, such as night city views and sunsets. There are 15 different automatic modes. But more interesting for many are the color settings that work like preset files, if you want your photos to look stylish right away.

There are models for portrait photography, for example, and several for black and white photography. These settings can be changed instantly without having to navigate through menus using their own button. More can be downloaded directly to the camera using the Nikon Imaging Cloud app.

Also included is Film Grain, first released on the Nikon Zf camera. You can add a very rough black and white expression to your images or a little liveliness depending on your needs and the mood of the day.

Regarding the camera, it has been mentioned many times how surprising the features are, and video recording is one of them. The video features are solid, and this camera makes very impressive social media videos, but the quality is also very good for more professional shooting. The Nikon Z6 III is an even more capable option for video shooting, but the Z5 IIC is great for many photographers.

Nikon Z5 IIC: video is recorded using the entire pixel count of the sensor, meaning a 6K image is converted into a 4K video file. This results in sharper images with less noise and aliasing than 4K video, which only uses a portion of the pixels, meaning there are differences in 4K video too! 4K 60P video will have cropping like the Z6 II.

The Nikon Z5 IIC shoots N-RAW video directly to an SD card. N-RAW offers 12-bit color depth and is suitable for those who work with video colors and tones. In addition to the wide-gamut N-Log setting, videos can be recorded in 10-bit format internally directly to the memory card, which previously required the use of an external recorder. This is suitable for professionals who want to define the color and contrast of the video material themselves. It may not seem immediately relevant when choosing a camera, but it shows that this body has enough features as your needs and hobby grow!

In addition to the body stabilizer, it is possible to stabilize videos with electronic (e-VR) image stabilization. The body stabilizer also takes into account the focus point in use and stabilizes the area in focus to optimize it.

The Nikon Z5 IIC supports modern data transfer via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Nikon SnapBridge not only transfers images but also acts as a remote shutter release for the camera. The camera is compatible with the Nikon Imaging Cloud service and can be used as a webcam directly via USB.
