Nikon Z5 II DSLR camera body

The camera has a familiar name and the target audience is also the same, meaning those who are upgrading their camera to a full-frame sensor or, why not, those interested in shooting with other devices and who want a decent camera to use.

The appearance is also the same as the popular first version, but that's where the similarities end. The Nikon Z5 II contains some of the same technology as the top-of-the-line Z8 and Z9 models, meaning this body offers better image quality, faster autofocus, and clearly more advanced video recording capabilities.

This means you can take impressive photos even in low light, sharp photos and videos of children or pets, and video content that stands out clearly from phone footage, for example for social media.

  • 24.5 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor
  • 5-axis 7.5-stop effective in-body image stabilization
  • AI-taught autofocus with subject recognition (9 different subject types i.e. airplanes, animals, etc.)
  • Same Expeed 7 processor as in the Z8 and Z9 flagship models
  • continuous shooting at 11 frames per second (and 30FPS burst shooting with pre-recording)
  • 4K 60P video recording without time limit
  • Shooting N-Raw video directly to a memory card
  • Charging the battery directly in the camera via the USB-C connection
  • Two memory card slots
  • Compatible with older Nikon lenses with adapter

Completely redesigned: new AF, stabilization and continuous shooting

The Nikon Z 5 II features a similar 3D tracking autofocus system to the flagship Z9 and Z8 models, and the difference is clear compared to its predecessor.

Going through the feature list, you'll notice that the camera surpasses the Nikon Z6 II in terms of features. Similarly, the internal image stabilization is better than the Z6 and Z7 models, with an effective f-stop of 7.5. The stabilization helps you take sharp handheld photos in the dark, which is often when the landscape and light are at their best, such as at dusk.

The new image sensor also helps with low-light photography, with a sensitivity of up to 64,000, which is quite a feat compared to film. With the Nikon Z5 II camera, you get images with less noise than with the previous model.

Like the Nikon Z8, the camera has a C30 burst mode, meaning you can shoot 30 images per second and recording starts even before you press the shutter button! This feature allows you to time even fast-paced situations perfectly, burst shooting only works with JPG images.

The Nikon Z5 II includes the manufacturer's latest autofocus features. Like the top models, the system is AI-trained, meaning the camera quickly recognizes different shooting subjects and situations. The camera's focus recognizes nine different subject types, animals, vehicles, and people. In addition, the camera has a popular separate bird mode.

This is useful for more than just shooting fast-paced sports or birds in flight. The same features work for people and pets, meaning you get sharper images even in everyday shots when your kids are running or you want to capture a quick moment - while still keeping your subject in focus. And these features work for video too!

Nikon Z5 II in video shooting

Regarding the camera, it has been mentioned many times how the features are surprising and video recording is one of them. The video features are solid and this camera makes very impressive social media videos, but the quality is also good enough for more professional shooting. The Nikon Z6 III is an even more capable option for video recording, but the Z5 II is enough for many photographers.

Here are the key features:

  • 4K 30P video recording across the entire sensor area
  • 4K 60P video with cropping
  • Product review mode
  • In addition to in-camera stabilization, electronic stabilization for handheld video
  • Hi-Res Zoom - seamlessly combines optical and digital zoom in FullHD video
  • N-Raw 12bit raw video recording directly to memory card
  • Support for LUT files, including RED Cinema LUTs
  • Time lapse video shooting
  • When recording a horizontal video, the information on the screen also rotates to portrait mode
  • 10-bit and N-Log wide gamut shooting modes
  • Recording for up to 2 hours, no 30-minute time limit
  • Works as a webcam directly via USB cable

Nikon Z5 II: video is recorded using the entire pixel count of the sensor, i.e. a 6K image is converted into a 4K video file. This results in sharper images with less noise and aliasing than 4K video that only uses a portion of the pixels. 4K 60P video will have cropping like the Z6 II.

The Nikon Z5 II is the first camera from the manufacturer to record N-Raw video directly to SD card. N-Raw offers 12-bit color depth and is suitable for those who work with video colors and tones. In addition to the wide-range N-log setting, videos can be recorded in 10-bit format internally directly to the memory card, which previously required the use of an external recorder. This is suitable for professionals who want to define the color and contrast of the video material themselves.

In addition to the body stabilizer, it is possible to stabilize videos with electronic (e-VR) image stabilization. The body stabilizer also takes into account the focus point in use and stabilizes the area in focus to optimize it.

The Nikon Z5 II supports modern data transfer via WiFi and Bluetooth . Nikon SnapBridge not only transfers images but also acts as a remote shutter release for the camera . The camera is compatible with the Nikon Imaging Cloud cloud service and functions as a webcam directly via the USB connection.

The camera's battery is EN-EL15C and can be charged directly via the USB-C connection on the camera.

Z5 II on loistava kamera.

Lyhyesti: simppeli, laadukas kamera. Suosittelen, jos olet ostamassa ensimmäistä täydenkennon kameraa.
