Harman / Ilford Phoenix was a real special at the time of its release, a completely new color film emulsion in 2023. The first version of Phoenix was a rather rough film, meaning it had high contrast, vibrant colors and warm tones and no attempt had been made to minimize grain. There is grain, but especially at medium size, the resolution is also quite good.

Now this II version is a bit more refined, the feel is the same very film-like warm but the tone is a bit more general purpose i.e. not so strong. In addition to the sharpness, the color separation is better so with a good scan you get really nice files from this. The film scans clearly better than the previous version, both with camera scanning and with your example large Fuji and Noritsu scanners.

Like version one, when shooting against backlight and in bright light, there is a halation effect, meaning the bright light seems to spread out slightly.
