New Pro version: The new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K PRO is a professional device equipped with top features for video productions. The BMPCC6KPRO updates its predecessor with the following features:
Unlike the Pocket Cinema 4K camera, the BMPCC 6K Pro features a larger Super35 size image sensor and a Canon EF mount.
Compared to the BMPCC4K, the sensor is about 2 times larger, offering better dynamics and higher sensitivity. The EF mount opens up the possibilities for a wide range of still and cinema lenses. Autofocus also works with EF lenses
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras have always sucked batteries dry and for longer gigs you have to have a bag full of batteries. The new 6K Pro now uses more powerful and also very popular NP-F (aka L-plate) type batteries instead of Canon's standard batteries.
In addition, there is a power supply included, which can also be used to charge the battery and power the camera via the USB-C connection, for example directly from a power bank.
The Blackmagic Pocket 6K PRO records Raw video directly to CFast memory cards. There are several codecs to choose from, including BlackMagic RAW and ProRes 422. The large 5-inch touchscreen allows you to quickly change settings and the camera has preset settings for shooting interviews, for example.
The screen is very bright (1500 NITS) and now, for the first time, foldable, giving you a better shooting position and avoiding reflections in bright sunlight.
Aperture can be adjusted with compatible lenses using a separate Iris Wheel or via the touchscreen without any pixels being overexposed. The camera's top panel features dedicated buttons for white balance, sensor sensitivity, shutter angle, and programmable function buttons. There is also a dedicated button for still images, which are recorded at 21.2 megapixels.
For slow-motion videos, there is a dedicated High Frame Rate button on the back of the camera. Other physical buttons on the back include zoom, menu button and play button. The Focus button and Iris control button are also located next to the touchscreen, and navigating through menus and other camera features are controlled via the 5-inch Full HD touchscreen.
The big innovation is the adjustable ND filter. With a press of your thumb you can adjust whether you are using a 2-stop (1/4), 4-stop (1/16) or 6-stop (1/64) ND filter or turn it off. This helps control exposure times considerably and you can shoot at full aperture more easily if you want.
Professionals also appreciate good audio connections. The Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro now includes two mini XLR audio jacks with Phantom 48V support, so you can connect a professional shotgun microphone directly to the device. In addition to the XLR connector and internal microphones, the camera has a 3.5mm mini plug for connecting video mics, for example.
The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K also features a full-size HDMI connector. In addition to an external recorder , image data can be saved to an external hard drive via a USB-C connection.
The Raw workflow is possible with the versatile DaVinci Resolve Studio that comes with the camera (valued at around 300e if purchased separately).
