5 plus 1 tips for flying a drone in winter conditions

Drones are fun tools, but winter weather can be challenging for both the drone and the pilot. With a little preparation and planning, you can capture magically beautiful winter landscapes from a bird's eye view.

1. Keep the batteries warm

Always use fully charged and warm batteries for shooting. Keep unused batteries close to you, e.g. in the inside pocket of your jacket. If you shoot a lot in winter conditions, we recommend considering automatically warming batteries, which are available for some drone models.

Before flying, hover the drone in the air for a minute to warm up the batteries. You can monitor the battery temperature on the remote control display. In cold weather, the drone's flight time is shorter than in warm weather, so monitor the battery charge during flight.

If you use a mobile phone to control the drone, also fully charge its battery before filming.
