" Virne PRESS presents pictures in which humor is a central means of communication. The situations often arise unexpectedly. Virne's photographers are all self-taught in their comedy, as graphic humor is not yet available as a subject.

In her article, Professor Merjan Salo considers which forms of humor in newspaper illustrations actually make you laugh. A comparison with the award-winning newspaper illustrations from the 1970s humor series shows that we still laugh at the same things as we did almost 40 years ago.

Photographer Caj Bremer is the exclusive grand old man of Finnish photojournalism. Bremer was allowed to operate at a time when magazines were still at the center of communication, and photo reports played a major role in understanding the world. In his work here, Bremer has repeatedly relied on his humorous nature.
