The Thypoch Simera offers an interesting combination of a 28mm wide angle and F1.4 aperture.

This lens is identical in image quality to the Leica M version, but you can get the lens directly on Nikon cameras without adapters. And this looks really great with, for example, the Nikon Zf. The lens does not have a so-called chip, so Focus Peaking works as a focus aid, but focus confirmation does not work.

In short, Thypoch has great image quality and includes solutions such as a floating focus group so that image quality is as good as possible at different distances. This is the newer II version, the image quality is the same but a focus tab is included.

The appearance is very traditional and the lens body shows the focus points at different apertures, but the optics itself includes modern coatings, special lenses such as 3x HRI, 1x ED and 1x Aspherical lens element. The aperture ring can be adjusted to eliminate clicks, so this is also suitable for video production.

Otherwise, this is a fairly traditional lens, meaning the mechanical quality competes well with Voigtländer and even Leica. The focus works smoothly and accurately. A lens hood is also included, which is somewhat visible in the viewfinder image.

But what about the most important thing, what do the pictures taken with this look like? The resolution and sharpness are good at full aperture, but the detail improves by stopping down a stop or two. The lens has no less than 14 rounded diaphragm blades, so the background remains nice even at different apertures.

Thypochin is owned by DZO, which manufactures cinema lenses, and this foundation is reflected in Thypochin's products, meaning that instead of raw resolution, the images taken with the lens have a certain sound and their own way of drawing. On the other hand, the previously mentioned modern structures and coatings are used, i.e., the foundation, so it's a pretty good combination of these two different worlds.
