The updated G2 version of the popular Tamron 70-180mm lens is now also available for Nikon photographers! Focal length, compact size and F2.8 aperture.

The updated G2 version of the popular Tamron 70-180mm lens is now also available for Nikon photographers! The focal length, compact size and F2.8 aperture are the same, but almost everything else has been redesigned.
The biggest changes are the image stabilization and optical design. However, the addition of the stabilization has only slightly increased the weight and size.
The Tamron 70-180mm G2 is the lightest and smallest F2.8 fast telephoto zoom in this focal length class on the market.
Usability has been improved and the Tamron 70-180mm G2 includes a Focus-Hold button for controlled focus and a programmable switch with three options. The switch's operation can be changed using the Tamron Lens Utility software. The lens has a USB-C connector, so a separate lens dock is no longer needed.
The lens' closest focusing distance at the wide end is just 30cm and at the telephoto end it's 85cm. The Tamron 70-180mm G2 doesn't replace traditional macro, but it opens up a lot of new possibilities for close-up photography!
The lens weighs only 865g, for comparison the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S weighs 1440 grams. The lens forms a balanced whole on the Nikon body even without the battery grip and tracking a fast moving subject is easy.
