The Sony XLR-K3M is a multi-function device for recording high-quality audio. It features two full-size XLR connectors (with 48V Phantom power) and one 3.5mm jack. The XLR-K3M acts as a mixer and also includes a high-quality shotgun microphone.

With a new Sony system camera like the Sony A7R IV or A7S III, the audio conversion to digital format already takes place in the XLR-K3M's own A/D converter, and the audio data is transferred in digital format directly to the video data. This means that no additional cables are needed between the devices, and the most common sources of interference and noise are completely bypassed.

The Sony XLR-K3M also works traditionally, controlling analog audio if cameras from other manufacturers are used.
