The Pentax UP 8x25 is a compact inverted porro binocular. The inverted porro prism design and small 25mm front lens make the binoculars a compact and functional companion for nature trails and vacations. Or really, wherever you go, as the binoculars slip easily into a jacket pocket, for example.
The Pentax U series, to which the Pentax UP binoculars belong, includes compact binoculars with a maximum 25mm front lens.
The structure and appearance of the compact Pentax UP binoculars are slightly different from what you are used to. The diopter adjustment has been moved from around the eyepiece to the middle of the binocular body. By pressing the button, a smoothly moving adjustment lever pops out of the binocular body, allowing you to adjust the diopter to suit your eyes.
On top of the body, conveniently under the index finger, is a notched focus ring. Focusing from the closest focusing distance of 1.9 meters to infinity requires about three full rotations of the focus ring. In other words, focusing is not the fastest if you want to focus from close to far or from far to close. But the advantage of slower focusing is that it is easier to focus with fine details.
The binoculars have a standard 1/4" tripod thread. Since the thread is easily accessible at the bottom of the binoculars, you can easily attach the binoculars (without a separate adapter) to a tripod, tripod, or any mount with a 1/4" male thread.
